Every year the Consumer Electronics Show creates buzz in Los Vegas. This year, CES has joined forces with PMA (Photo Marketers Association) and lots of new digital video and camera toys will be revealed.

Here are a few trends to watch:

Smart phones are competing with compact cameras. Smart phones with high mega pixels can be loaded with cool new apps that allow for retouching, recoloring, correcting and various post production effects. Smartphones have turned into image sharing machines.

How will compact cameras differentiate themselves from smartphones? More pro features like compact flash, ultra zoom and focus features. Lenses will be the major difference, and the kind of glass that used to be reserved for the pro photographer, will now fit right in your pocket with your compact camera.

Two dimensions not enough for you? Watch for cameras with dual shutters for 3D photos and video. The advent of 3D TV has created a dearth of content. Who doesn’t want to see a video of their 2 year old or their golden retriever reaching through the screen? Pretty soon we will be posting 3D photos to Facebook and sharing 3D videos on YouTube.
