Onwards, Upwards: Careers Blog.

With university started, or maybe even newly entering employment, most of us have the possibility of a career on our minds; but in this ever increasing competitive world with decreasing youth employment,  it isn’t the easiest economic climate to be applying for a job. Help is at hand in the form of Chris Ankobea’s Careers Blog.

Careers Blog is full of useful information and links which act as guidance and support, from what to do on results day, to business events where you can network with entrepreneurs, to how to act in an interview. The posts are concise and straight to the point, no complicated jargon or useless information.

What I find especially helpful is the Meet the Employers feature; this is an interview with a person who has experience in their chosen field. For example, Careers Blog interviewed a head of a top digital publisher in London questioning him on how he broke into journalism, such a highly competitive and dog-eat-dog business.

The blog even highlights the job opportunities the upcoming 2012 Olympics will bring to the city, giving links to the different areas jobs would be available such as security, and encouraging you to approach companies who are going to be rushed off their feet during these much anticipated games.

What is especially refreshing about Careers Blog is that it doesn’t just focus on what to do after getting a degree from university, this blog offers information on apprenticeship schemes which look for people who perhaps didn’t take the route of A-Levels and the like. Companies such as British Gas, Channel 4 and RBS all offer apprenticeship schemes giving an invaluable advantage to actually doing, rather than seeing or reading about it from a textbook.

Much like here at Creative Nerds, Careers Blog aims to inspire young people, through motivational posts about showing passion to practical information about careers and jobs. So if you’re feeling as if there’s no hope, I guarantee (without being cliché) that Careers Blog will give you the inspiration and motivation to make the best of yourself no matter what you do.
