Productive Sunday Evening – Gain Some New Followers

A quick and easy way that sometimes works for gaining some new followers, ones that arn’t all bots and random girls asking you to click links to get a free iPhone. Have a read and let us know if it works for you.

I set out to gain some followers this evening, took a very common sense approach.

I have a decent ratio of followers, 400 : 2500

So it can’t really harm the ratio if i set out and follow about 200 who are interested in the same sort of things as me, its basically like SEO – when you optimize a site you try to bring in as much words and phrases that relate to the item or message you are trying to sell or share.

I went on the twitter profiles of a few ‘popular’ but not BIG TIME bloggers / designers / social media addicts and checked out who THEY were following. These are the SELECT few that they feel are a valuable source – people that you can pick out and potentially turn into a client or a very good link,

So going through the follow list, you have a quick skim through the peoples biographies. In my case i was looking for words like ‘founder, ceo, marketing manager, digital content manager, social media at’

Give them all a quick follow. Put a tweet out like this : https://twitter.com/#!/CreativeNerdsUK/status/143430241170358273

And if you’ve been selective enough you’ll see a slow rise in your followers. Have a look at how mad my inbox went in a few hours :

But theres a few more tips.

  • Firstly – Have a good profile picture, sometimes people dont want to see you holding drinks and partying with your friends. Make it a nice headshot or your company logo.
  • Secondly – Update your biography, does it really look appealing to someone? What are the best parts of yourself or company that you wish to share with others. Make sure you link to a website such as your portfolio, company site etc.
  • Thirdly – Keep your tweets clean. A lot of people chat too much stuff on their twitter that might not appeal to an audience, keep things down to earth and content that people can relate to.

Of course you dont have to follow any of these rules, some people are on twitter simply for the fact that they can express their views and opinions and don’t pay much attention to their following, however if you’re a small brand, a freelancer, an individual who wants to network and find new opportunities this is a good step to take.

Thanks
