Despite being many people’s favourite app, Twitter’s growth seems to be grinding to a halt. Does this mean the beloved social media app is dying?

People have started asking if it is “broken” and if there is any way to save it… This is an issue that has been gently bubbling away at the surface for a while, but many predictions claim that growth will slow down immensely by 2019.

It had been growing by 19.3% in 2014, and by 2019, the prediction claims that this would drop down to 6.2%.

This is quite a big drop for a huge platform like Twitter! Even though it is one of the most popular platforms with 310 million monthly users, it cannot afford to take knock-backs like this!

Are the new apps overtaking Twitter?

These new apps include any that have been made after Twitter, such as Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp.

These platforms are growing exponentially… 60% of Instagram users log into the app daily making it the second most engaged platform after Facebook.

In theory, you would expect Twitter to be second on the list, considering that it has been around for so much longer, but not in this case!

Furthermore, Snapchat is another “young” app making it’s mark in the social media world. Despite only having 5 million users back in December 2013, it has now gained 100 million daily users which is remarkable in terms of growth!

They appear to be doing very well, suggesting that they could overtake Twitter.

Despite all of this, you can’t dismiss Twitter too quickly. These claims have been stewing from since 2009, but it’s still here today! On top of that, it is a much loved app too!
