Hasn’t Instagram come a long way since 2010. The photo sharing filter app now has over 500 million monthly active users and is owned by one of the biggest social players in the world, Facebook.

Stepping up its offering the company has recently re-branded, as well as launching a new business profile service.

So, what do they do, and why should you care? Having a Business Profile means:

  • You will be recognised as a business
  • Your profile will have a contact button
  • Insights will be unlocked
  • You have the ability to promote

Up until now, there was no distinction between a business or personal account on Instagram. Now, those wishing to be seen as a business can register for a business profile. This enables you to add a contact button with your preferred method of contact (call, text or email) plus the option to add a map to your place of business.

Just like Facebook Pages, the idea is to give users a different experience if it’s a personal or business Instagram account – and proves how important businesses are to Instagram’s success. So what are the reasons to convert your profile?

Insight

One of the best features of a business profile is the insight and analytics that comes with it. Businesses are now able to analyse the number of impressions, reach, clicks and follower activity for a post.

Paid Posts

Instagram has made it easy to promote posts into ads from within the app. You can select a target audience, add a CTA button and choose the length of time to run the ad.

This makes advertising more accessible and attractive to small businesses, and gives them a easy way to splash £10 or £20, just to see how it does. The easier advertising is to test out, the more businesses will try it, and when results are positive you’re bound to return.

Contact button

Your customers can text, call or email you with a one-touch contact button. They can also get directions straight to your business location with the touch of a button. Why would you not want this!

Stand out

As this feature is still new, not that many profiles will have business profiles. The fact you’re signed up will allow your channel to stand out, and will make potential customers sit for longer… Chances are they’ll hit the contact button too, as they’ve probably never seen it before!

How to set up a business profile

  1. Go to your profile and tap the settings icon
  2. Tap Switch to Business Profile.
  3. On the Connect Your Facebook Page screen, you’ll see all of the Facebook Pages you’re currently an admin on.
  4. On the Set Up Your Business Profile page, review your business’s contact information, make any changes and tap Done.

Currently, a Business Profile on Instagram can only be connected to a single Facebook Page, and if you don’t see the option to add a ‘Business profile’ don’t worry, it’s being rolled out slowly… so you’ll see it soon!

It’s early days for Instagram’s new feature, but it’s clear marketing and paid spend on the channel is going to grow. For us, running accounts and paid reach for clients now has even more analytics, as well as opportunities to gain that all important CTA to sign up, shop or site.
